This afternoon we arrive and check into our hotel, the Holiday Inn in Rock Island, IL. This evening we depart for Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse for an included dinner & a performance of “Mama Won’t Fly”.  An outrageously hilarious race against the clock begins when Savannah Sprunt Fairchild Honeycutt agrees to get her feisty mother all the way from Alabama to California in time for her brother's wedding. Savannah's problem: Mama won't fly. With only four days to make it to the ceremony, this determined daughter has no choice but to drive cross-country with her equally willful mother, Norleen Sprunt, in Mama's vintage sedan. As Savannah steels herself for this hastily conceived road trip, another outrageous complication arises: a bubbly, overeager bride-to-be arrives unannounced. Hayley Quinn, delighted to finally meet her future in-laws, is convinced that traveling together to her wedding is the perfect way to bond. The folly of her decision quickly becomes apparent when the journey begins and comedic chaos ensues. Every conceivable—and inconceivable—mishap that can occur does, including the theft of their car, a near-fatal encounter at an underwear museum, a mad dash across the desert in a hijacked eighteen-wheeler and a riotous detour to Vegas. In a surprising and heartwarming resolution, they forge an exciting new path for their own relationship and welcome Hayley into their delightfully wacky family.    (D)

Thursday, October 11
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning before we depart for a step-on guided tour of Bishop Hill Historic District.  In 1846, a group of Swedish immigrants seeking religious freedom left their native land under the guidance of their charismatic spiritual leader, Erik Jansson. The site for their new utopia, later called Bishop Hill, was described to them as a “land of plenty, brimming with milk and honey,” and they struggled to make it so. These Janssonists built a successful communal society based on economic and religious principles. Many of the structures erected during this building campaign still exist. The colony grew and flourished for fifteen years before disbanding in 1861. Today Bishop Hill is a quiet country village where the charm and character of the original colony have survived the test of time. Bishop Hill is a National Landmark Village, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and it is an Illinois State Historic Site. Taste the history of this once-bustling 19th century settlement. Sample their fascinating museums, quaint eateries, unique gift shops, and art galleries.  After rest stops along the way, we return home with many special memories to share!    (B)
